Graphic Packaging Kicks Off 2023 With a Bang With Double Success at Worldstar Awards
January 10, 2023
Fiber-based packaging leader Graphic Packaging International has continued its winning streak into 2023 after a double win at the annual Worldstar Awards.
The prestigious awards, held every year by the World Packaging Organization, celebrate the best of the best in structural design innovation across a variety of sectors. They are only open to packaging innovations that have previously won one of a select group of awards in the previous 12 months. This year’s scheme received almost 500 entries.
A collaboration with Swiss company Lockcon AG to create tamper-evident packaging for a doping test kit for athletes and animal sports won in the Medical and Pharmaceutical category. Combining fraud-proof functionality with user-friendly convenience, this innovative pack underpins the simple, reliable sample collection process that Lockcon promises. Plus, the recyclable paperboard construction enables responsible disposal after use.
The PaperSeal™ tray developed for US-based grocery retailer New Seasons Market won in the Food category. Launched in stores in April 2022 for their Partner Brand Fresh Pasta range, the PaperSeal tray reduced plastic by 91 percent compared to the previous plastic clamshell pack and enabled New Seasons Market to eliminate 120,000 plastic packs from entering waste streams each year.
Dan Ahern, Graphic Packaging’s director, global innovation and design, hailed the double success, saying, “Our innovation and design teams are so passionate about ensuring our solutions go above and beyond customer expectations. I’m thrilled to see this hard work and creativity recognized with two prestigious Worldstar Awards.
“2022 was a golden year for us with 25 award wins. We’re delighted to see 2023 kick off so positively, as we’re determined to achieve even greater levels of recognition for our customers this year.”
The winners’ trophies will be presented on May 6 in a live ceremony at the interpack trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany.
